Should manufacturers favour their local suppliers?

In view of recent events, we would be tempted to answer with a resounding YES.

A YES for not depending on international production and transport chains anymore, and for the planet and ecology.

But we can also answer NO because it is impossible for us to have all the raw materials available within a radius of 100km. NO because the short lead time required to set up an industrial sector does not allow them to be competitive or reactive.

What is the solution? Perhaps to choose the famous middle way, by mixing the sources of supply. The local industrial fabric is then secure and the profitability of our industries is little affected. To do this, the use of flexible and open tools is a prerequisite.
