Hot gas test benches for BorgWarner in Rzeszów / Poland

Testing technology for the development of more efficient turbochargers

BorgWarner Turbo Systems, leading supplier of innovative turbocharging systems, equips its new testing facility in Rzeszów / Poland with hot gas test benches from KRATZER AUTOMATION. A number of test benches for the development of turbochargers will be implemented within the next months, another system is already in the planning stage. The hot gas testing technology enables the company to automatically determine the thermodynamic and strength behavior of exhaust gas turbochargers at various operating points.

BorgWarner Turbo Systems has been using testing technology from KRATZER AUTOMATION for several years. In 2000, the first hot gas test benches were brought into service at BorgWarner’s turbocharger development center in Kirchheimbolanden / Germany. With the new testing facility in Poland, BorgWarner Turbo Systems expands its activities in the Eastern European market. The test center is part of the turbocharger plant in Rzeszów that BorgWarner opened in 2009.

In order to further advance the development of innovative turbocharging solutions in Rzeszów, BorgWarner Turbo Systems commissioned KRATZER AUTOMATION to deliver three turbocharger test benches. The test benches are based on a natural gas burner technology that makes it possible to set up exactly reproducible conditions of mass flow, temperature and pressure on the turbocharger and simulate each required operating point. This is particularly important for recording maps and analysing the efficiency of prototypes. The reliable and accurate measurement of the thermodynamic behaviour is a requirement for increasing the power of turbo charged combustion engines and improving the durability of turbochargers.
