Managing and tracking packages at the depot and hub

Depot and hub handling: Quick and accurate handling via automated shipment tracking.


Unterschleissheim, September 2011. The logistics software specialist KRATZER AUTOMATION AG now has a new module for its software suite cadisTRANSPORT TMS for handling in depot and hub. This module supports freight carriers in the area of terminal handling by introducing functionality for the entering, planning and tracking of shipments and packages. This module is used for the loading and unloading processes and also for the management of master pallets and inventory handling.



A software improves transparency of the shipment handling by complete interface documentation, covering the several stages of a shipment.
Expected and current stages are balanced at the scanning of ingoing and outgoing traffic and at the scanning of the inventory.


Information from the “Terminal handling” module allows to improve internal handling processes.

The module is well suited to the individual processes of the dispatcher allowing operational and the quality assurance tasks to be easily fulfilled.

An integrated and automated rule engine with an easy to use user interface helps to automatize the intra terminal routing, the predispatching process and the identification of the terminal staging areas allowing then to reduce the manual intervention to a minimum.


Thanks to both incoming and outgoing scans at the depot, to loading lists’ controls and to the comparison of expected and current states, the loading tackles liable to exchange, wrong loadings, discrepancies or missing packages can be documented , immediately identified and transferred to suitable processes again.
The range of functions of this module contains the management of the incoming and outgoing processes with the times, the relations, the gates and the vehicle number.
The approval and the closure of the loading and unloading processes can be done from the central working place.
Depot handling can thus be defined, followed and then approved as a centralised, real time activity.
The software can check and process the scans of the gate’s number, the seal numbers, the swap body numbers, the packages and the pallets.
In order to make the user’s easier and avoiding manual interaction, the steps on the mobile device occur sequentially scanning special types of bar codes.
Login procedures to the mobile systems define very clearly the allocation of responsibilities and authorities.
The scans and the processing of the packages during the loading and the unloading can be simultaneously carried out by several employees with scanners at the same time.
Master pallets can be created, managed and cancelled in order to concentrate and reorganize the shipments according to consignees or to other conditions.


The central dispatcher can visualise the shipment of the packages on the master pallets which is an advantage for critical shipments or in case of transfers of many packages.
The solution also contains detailed inventory functionality.
The inventory at the terminal area can occur as staging areas or depot inventory. Further information about dangerous goods or special shipments can be entered or checked separately.
As for the identification and labelling of packages or handling equipment, labels can be created and printed directly from the software module.
All the information about the shipments and the processed packages (product, status, timestamp…) can be enquired or modified on the cadisTRANSPORT solution.
The nominal and current data concerning the loading and unloading processes can be analysed and modified to create bordereau’s and loading reports which are transmitted through shipment data (EDI) or printed. 
cadisTRANSPORT can be easily integrated to existing host systems thanks to an approved interface technology.
The system can be adapted to suit local installations at individual depots and can also be installed as a centralised solution allowing for the administration of operations controlling multi-depot scenarios.
The exchange of information about the packages and shipments with one or more host systems is a part of the solution. 
It is also possible to integrate optionally data of video control systems and under floor chain control, package sorting machines so as weight and volume checking systems.

The “Terminal handling” module enlarges the represented processes in cadisTRANSPORT TMS with all handling processes in depot and hub areas. Combined with other modules of the software suite cadisTRANSPORT TMS, cadisTRANSPORT completely covers the areas and processes in the value chain of freight carriers with transparent and lean processes.
